Before you launch, make sure Stripe is connected correctly and your customers can actually pay for their orders. The way to check is a test payment - no real money involved.

Step 01Turn on test mode

Shopify: Settings → Payments → Stripe settings → at the bottom, check "Enable Test Mode".

Website with API keys: in Stripe, open the API section, pick the test keys (Test) and paste them into your website settings.

To see test payments in Stripe itself, switch on "Viewing Test Data".

Step 02Run a test payment

Add any product to the cart on your website, click Checkout and enter the details of a test card from the list below.

Checking out with a test card

An order confirmation will arrive at the email you entered, and the payment will show up in Stripe. If that's what you see, everything is set up correctly and you're ready to accept real payments.
