TikTok Shop US is a storefront built right into TikTok, where shoppers place orders without ever leaving the app. For a seller based in the CIS, getting there takes more than it seems: you need a US company, paperwork without a single mismatch and a warehouse in the US. Below is exactly what you'll need, where applications most often get rejected and how to land your first sales.
Step 01What to prepare before you register
The US TikTok Shop is designed for US-based sellers. There is a separate Cross-Border program for foreign companies, but according to industry reviews it only covers a limited list of countries (the UK, the EU, China, Singapore). CIS countries aren't on it, so the realistic route for us is a US LLC.
The basic package looks like this:
- A US LLC and its formation documents (Articles of Organization).
- An EIN - the company's tax ID. You'll often be asked for the IRS confirmation letter (CP 575 or CP 575A).
- A US address - the company's registered address, plus a separate warehouse and returns address.
- A US bank account in the LLC's name.
- The owner's passport - to verify any beneficial owner with a stake of 25% or more.
- A tax form. TikTok's help center puts it plainly: US sellers fill out a W-9, non-US sellers fill out a W-8.
There's a catch with the form. Which W-8 an LLC with a foreign owner should file (W-8BEN or W-8BEN-E) depends on the company's tax classification, and sources disagree here. Settle this with an accountant before you register, because you won't be able to change the details in Seller Center later.
And don't forget about reporting. For a single-member LLC owned by a foreigner, the IRS requires you to file Form 5472 every year, even if you had no sales. We covered how to do it remotely in our article on federal tax for a Delaware LLC.
Step 02The gray area: do you need someone in the US?
This is the main reason non-residents get stuck. Based on descriptions of the registration form, TikTok asks for a primary business representative who resides in the US, along with their US ID and the last four digits of their SSN or ITIN.
Here's what different sources say:
- doola: the representative must be over 18 and prove US residency (driver's license, state ID or passport). They don't need to be a citizen or a co-owner.
- Globalfy: without a Letter of Authorization for that person, your application will most likely be rejected, and selling without a real partner in the US is tough.
- Meanwhile, the foreign owner can still pass verification as a beneficial owner using their own passport.
At the time of writing, we couldn't find an official page that spells this requirement out in full. The rules keep changing, so before you apply, open the form in Seller Center and check which fields are actually required in your case.
Step 03Registering in Seller Center and why applications get rejected
You register at seller-us.tiktok.com. Here's the process:
- Create an account with your phone number or email. If you have an invitation code, enter it.
- Choose your seller type: for an LLC that's a business account (corporation or partnership), not individual.
- Upload the company's and the representative's documents. Accepted formats are JPG, JPEG, PNG or PDF.
- List the beneficial owners and addresses, and fill out the tax form.
- Complete identity verification. Sometimes you'll be asked for a video showing your face with the document in hand.
- Add at least one product. It won't show up in your shop until your documents are approved.
According to doola, review usually takes 24-48 hours. But treat that as a ballpark, not a promise.
Rejections tend to come down to the same few reasons:
- The details don't match. The company name, address or EIN on the form differs from your documents by even a single letter.
- Poor scans. Cropped edges, glare, covered fields.
- The account isn't in the company's name. The account holder's name must match the seller name.
- The ownership chain doesn't add up between the LLC documents and the application.
- Logging in from different devices and countries during registration. When several people access the account from different places, it looks suspicious.
Step 04Payouts and connecting Shopify
TikTok collects payment from buyers itself: checkout happens inside the app. The money goes to the bank account you linked in Seller Center. You need a US account in the LLC's name, and before connecting it, check with your bank that it accepts these deposits.
The money doesn't arrive right away. There's a settlement period between payment and payout, which you can see in the Finance section. Third-party services quote anywhere from a few days to a month after delivery, and payouts can be held longer for new shops and when there are returns. Factor this into your working capital.
If your store already runs on Shopify, you can connect it to TikTok Shop through the TikTok sales channel in Shopify. Products and inventory then stay in sync, and TikTok orders show up in the Orders section of your admin. Two things to keep in mind:
- Even when connected, payment still goes through TikTok, and payouts land in the account from Seller Center, not in Shopify Payments.
- Make sure your SKUs match in Shopify and TikTok. Otherwise orders and inventory start drifting apart. Sellers on the Shopify forum also complain that fulfillment status doesn't always update in TikTok, so check your first orders manually.

Step 05Logistics: a US warehouse and late shipment penalties
Shipping orders from Kazakhstan or Uzbekistan won't work: buyers expect delivery within a few days, and TikTok keeps a close eye on that. In practice you need a warehouse in the US - either your own address or a fulfillment company (3PL) that stores your stock and ships orders.
Shipping options in Seller Center: shipping on your own, shipping via TikTok Shipping, and Fulfilled by TikTok (FBT), where TikTok handles storage and shipping. Not everyone gets access to FBT, so check the terms in your own dashboard.
The key metric is the Late Dispatch Rate, the share of orders shipped after the deadline. According to industry reviews, you should keep it at 4% or below, and once it goes above 10%, penalties kick in: violation points, restrictions, up to your shop being frozen. If a tracking number isn't added in time, the order may be canceled automatically. TikTok changed its exact handling times and penalty rules several times in 2026, so double-check the shop performance section in Seller Center.
Keep taxes in mind, too: a warehouse in a state usually creates a sales tax obligation in that state. Talk this through with your accountant before you send inventory there.
Step 06First sales through creators
TikTok ads and TikTok Shop are two different things. An ad sends people to your website, and everything after that is on you. On TikTok Shop, people buy products right from a video or a livestream, and they can be promoted not only by you but also by creators through the affiliate program.
Here's how it works: you set a commission for creators on a product, they feature it in their videos and earn a percentage of sales. You only pay for results.
Where to start:
- Open 2-3 products to the affiliate program and set a clear commission. You pay it on top of the platform's fee.
- Send samples to smaller creators in your niche. Big influencers rarely take on products from a new shop.
- Shoot videos yourself from the shop's account. We explained how to set up the account in our article on a monetized TikTok account.
- Only after your first sales should you start running ads on the videos that are already selling.
A word on the platform fee. The figure most often quoted is 6% per order for most categories in the US, with a reduced 3% rate for 30 days for new sellers. Some sources report an increase to 8% starting in August 2026, but at the time of writing we couldn't find official confirmation. You can see the exact rate for your category in Seller Center.
SummaryPre-launch checklist
- The LLC is registered, and you have an EIN and the IRS letter.
- The US representative question is settled and the Letter of Authorization is in place.
- Your accountant has confirmed which W-8 to file and reminded you about Form 5472.
- A US account is open in the LLC's name.
- Every detail in the application matches your documents to the letter.
- You have a warehouse or 3PL in the US and a clear shipping time.
- If you use Shopify, your SKUs match and you check the first orders manually.
- You've picked 2-3 products for creators and calculated your margin with platform and creator commissions included.
It sounds like a lot of paperwork, and it is. But most rejections come from carelessness, not from the rules. If you're setting up a Shopify store for TikTok Shop or need help with the payments side, get in touch.
